PANORAMA
The PANORAMA Case Study
Marine propulsion solution for PANORAMA Passenger Catamaran
Built to support the growing demands of maritime tourism in Santorini, PANORAMA represents a new generation of passenger catamarans focused on performance, efficiency, and passenger experience.
The pioneering 20-meter passenger catamaran was built by ELEFTHERAKIS SHIPYARD for the Union Boatmen of Santorini and entered service in June 2024, offering daily charter operations and high-speed pleasure cruises around the island of Santorini.
Powered by 2 Baudouin 6F21 propulsion engines supplied and supported by XANTHIS S.A., the vessel delivers a total output of 1800 HP (1324 kW) at 2300 RPM under P4 Light Duty rating conditions, while achieving service speeds of up to 20 knots.
Built for Santorini’s high-demand passenger routes
Designed to accommodate 240 passengers, PANORAMA supports both cruise ship tender operations and local sightseeing tours around Santorini, one of the Mediterranean’s busiest tourism destinations.
Built with a lightweight GRP hull, the catamaran combines modern shipbuilding with advanced marine engineering, offering reliable daily operation, enhanced passenger comfort, and improved onboard experience through state-of-the-art navigation systems and upgraded passenger amenities.
The vessel was developed as part of a broader effort to replace older passenger boats with more efficient, environmentally responsible, and performance-driven marine solutions.
Compact marine power for modern passenger transport
The selection of the Baudouin 6F21 platform played a central role in achieving the vessel’s operational and performance objectives.
Known for its exceptional size-to-horsepower ratio, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions, the engine series provided the ideal balance between compact design and powerful marine performance for demanding passenger operations.
Compared to older propulsion systems, the 6F21 platform offers improved operational efficiency and lower environmental impact while maintaining the reliability required for intensive day-to-day marine transportation.
At the same time, compliance with IMO II and EPA 3-REC standards supports environmentally responsible operation aligned with the evolving future of sustainable maritime tourism.
Supporting the future of Greek maritime tourism
Beyond propulsion performance, PANORAMA reflects a new era of innovation in Greek shipbuilding through the combination of modern marine engineering, lower-emission propulsion technology, and enhanced passenger service capabilities.
By selecting and supporting an advanced propulsion solution tailored to the vessel’s demanding operational profile, XANTHIS S.A. contributed to the successful delivery of a modern passenger catamaran designed for reliability, efficiency, and long-term operational performance.
The successful completion of the project further strengthens the role of XANTHIS S.A. as a trusted marine propulsion partner for passenger vessels, coastal transportation, and advanced marine applications across Greece.
